Mr Wilford’s boiler was becoming unreliable. He wanted to find out about Air Source Heat Pump installations in the Market Harborough area.
The boiler was 12 years old, and with no natural gas supply to the village, he was looking to find an alternative to oil.
His 4-bedroom detached 1980s home already had underfloor heating across the ground-floor of the house, and he was keen to tie in an Air Source Heat Pump for additional renewable energy.
From speaking with neighbours, he was keen to find out who they’d used for Air Source Heat Pumps in the Market Harborough area.

Air Source Heat Pump Installation
From being born and bred locally, Mr Wilford was already familiar with us. An online search showed that Lewington’s are experts in renewable energy, including Air Source Heat Pumps.
The following was installed on Darren’s recommendation:
- Mitsubishi 11kW Air Source Heat Pump
- Mitsubishi 210ltr indirect un-vented pressurised Hot Water Cylinder
Mr Wilford also decided to apply for the Government’s ‘Renewable Heat Incentive’, that was available at the time.
The Result
- The Air Source Heat Pump was installed around the side of the house in the back garden, out of view. The large oil tank that was previously in situ was subsequently removed, freeing up additional space for garden storage as a result.
- The boiler was removed from the garage and the new Hot Water Cylinder installed instead, so no space was lost.
- The hot water tank and all pipework was removed from the loft, allowing more space to utilise otherwise.
Benefits of Air Source Heat Pumps
- “We don’t miss having an oil boiler. We ran out a couple of times in error which was a pain. Now we don’t need to remember to order it in or need to have it bled back through. Also, oil prices are increasing”.
- “An Air Source Heat Pump is easier than an oil boiler– just a slightly different way of operating. The digital thermostats we had you install can be controlled by an app on my phone”.
- “Once we combine solar to the Air Source Heat Pump and underfloor heating, we should have more energy savings”.
Air Source Heat Pump Considerations
- “Air Source Heat Pumps aren’t designed to give instant heat. It’s worth bearing in mind, if for example, you have elderly relatives visiting at Christmas that need to sit in front of a warm radiator upon arrival”.
“Having lived locally all my life I’ve always known of Lewington’s. I was keen to move away from oil when the boiler was on its way out, we have no gas in the village, and from doing some research an Air Source Heat Pump seemed the obvious solution. It was also beneficial to tie in with the underfloor wet heating system we already had in the downstairs of our house, and our plans to install solar panels in the future.
I knew we’d want to apply for the Renewable Homes Incentive at the time, so we got a couple of quotes in for comparison. One was from a renewable energy franchise company, but we went for Lewington’s as we wanted to choose a reputable local company that knew what they were doing, not a company unknown to us. Lewington’s also provided the most competitive quote.

I can now control the heating remotely through an app on my phone for the digital thermostats we have. It’s so much easier than oil, there’s no worry of running out!
From the initial capital outlay of the Air Source Heat Pump, we stand to get most of this back over the 7-year Renewable Homes Incentive period from the Government. As well as the environmental benefits, this also made good financial sense to us”.
