Reduce your bills and carbon footprint with ground source heating installation

Why choose Lewington for ground source heating installation?

We launched our renewable division back in 2000 and ever since then we have specialized in ground source heating installation for homes and offices. We won a Worcester Bosch Environment 2020 award for our installation of ground source heat pumps, mainly using the NIBE, Kensa, and Worcester brands. With renewable technologies, you can help the environment and save money and as you can even get money back from the government it’s a win-win!

“We’re really proud to be endorsed by Which as being a Trusted Trader. To become one of only a select few within our area is testament to our commitment to providing a friendly, efficient, and cost-effective service to the homes within the Leicestershire area.” says Graham Gambles, Managing Director.

GROUND SOURCE SYSTEMS

The clue is in the name for ground source systems! Domestic ground source heat pump installation involves sourcing heat from the ground using a network of pipes and pumps buried beneath your garden.

Providing heating and hot water all year round, ground source heating is a long-lasting and sustainable investment. Indeed, you can save on your energy bills by harvesting free energy from the earth with ground source heating installation.

BENEFITS OF GROUND SOURCE HEATING INSTALLATION

Ground Source Heat Pumps capture energy from the earth, saving the planet whilst you save money!

Introduction

A domestic ground source heat pump system allows you to use the energy stored underground to heat your home and hot water all year round. A pipe loop is installed underneath your garden and is controlled by a heat pump unit inside your house, making it both easy and efficient to manage.

This streamlined system can save you money on your heating bills by harnessing free energy from underneath your garden. Not only that, it’s an environmentally friendly option as it produces lower carbon emissions than traditional heating systems.

Technology

Ground source heating installation involves placing a pipe underneath your garden and connecting it to a heat pump unit inside your home.

The pipe is filled with a mixture of anti-freeze and water. As this solution moves through the pipe, it absorbs the heat from the ground. This heated solution is enough to boil a refrigerant, which is then compressed. This produces hot water that is fed into your system, providing you with heating and hot water. Once it’s been used, the fluid flows back into the ground loop to reheat. All you pay for is the electricity used to run the compressor.

Yes, all air source heat pumps require a hot water cylinder and suitable space around them to conceal the equipment.

Yes, heat pumps are perfect for underfloor heating as it works hand in hand with the heat pump temperature of 40 – 45 degrees.

A heat pump will typically deliver a flow temperature of 40 – 45 degrees so your existing rooms will need to be able to cope with the lower radiator surface temperature. If not you may be advised to increase the size of the radiator or look at alternative fan assisted radiators.

A typical system requires about 700 square meters of land to lay out the pipe loops.

First and foremost you need to have a well-insulated house, due to the low running temperatures of an heat pump you need to be able to retain the heat in the property. Also you must have room inside to conceal the equipment. The Heat pump itself and the hot water cylinder are typically the size of large fridge freezers. A garage or plant room is ideal.

Since April 2022, The Boiler Upgrade scheme has offered a £5,000 government grant to help install low-carbon heating systems. See our funding page for more information.
